Military English // Adult Courses
The Military English course is designed to prepare military and security personnel, civil servants and diplomats to take up roles where they will need to use English on a daily basis. You will receive 20 lessons of General English and 10 lessons of Military English per week.
The training is delivered within a framework derived from the NATO STANAG 6001 and Council of Europe language proficiency guidelines. When you’re undertaking this course, you will develop a range of skills such as reading, writing, speaking and listening.

The ETC military English course is designed to prepare military personnel for deployment in combined (trans-national) operations as well as for their roles in NATO and UN peacekeeping appointments.
Typical Course Content
Development for the trainee includes:
- Basic functional language for everyday military and security situations
- Study skills and strategies
- Practical reading skills
- Practical writing skills
- Practical listening skills
- Practical speaking skills
Military English runs in 12 week terms, but you can study for a little or as long as you wish.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long are classes?
Each lesson in 45 minutes long.
Our Specialist Courses offer you 30 lessons per week. This means you receive 22.5 hours of tuition per week. Some of your classes will be in the afternoon.
When can I start studying?
You can enrol at ETC from any Monday of your choice. On your first Monday at ETC you will take a test that will help us decide which level of classes you need.
You must be level B2 English in order to enrol on a Specialist English course at ETC.
