Policy for Recruitment of Ex-Offenders

Please note that where work for or through ETC International College is concerned, a conviction can never become spent because it is excepted under the Exemptions Order (SI 1986 No. 1249) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. This includes:

*Any employment involved with providing young people with accommodation, care, leisure and recreational activities, supervision or training (including work on premises where such provision is made).

Necessarily, this applies to all posts and services provided by and through ETC International College.

Section 70 (a) of the Children Act 1989 provides that a person who makes any statement in this notice or gives information which he knows to be false or misleading, shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding level 5.

Having a criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of your offences.

Before we can confirm if your application is successful, we will contact the 3 referees you provide below, which must be acceptable by ETC International College. The references should be from your most recent employer and a previous employer, or a character reference where there has been no previous employment.  By submitting this application form you agree for us to contact the referees at any point after submission.  

Information provided in this application will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and will be used for the purposes of recruitment with ETC International College. Should your application be successful, your information will then be used for your personnel records and payroll purposes. The information provided will be processed both manually and automatically for these purposes.

We may also carry out an online search about you for information that is publicly available online. This will include social media accounts you may hold. This will only be carried out on shortlisted candidates before interview. This processing of data will be conducted under the legal basis of Article 6 public task in line with the guidance laid out in the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) document. Any data collected during this search will be retained in line with our retention schedule, which is available n request.
