Frequently Asked Questions // About Us

How can I enrol at ETC?

Just complete the online enrolment form here and we will do the rest.

What about my English level?

You can do the online test here which will give us some idea of your level of English.

How much money should I bring with me?

We have students from all over the world all doing the same English courses as you, so will never be short of people to talk to. We run social activities and events every day so you can be sure you will meet everyone else and have a great time while you are learning English.

What about your teachers?

We only employ dedicated teachers who have relevant teaching qualifications to ensure you get the highest standard of teaching possible.

Do I need a visa?

Broadly speaking, if you are from a European country, you do not need a visa. If you are from outside the EU you may do. The best thing to do if you are not European is to contact the British Embassy in your country; they will be able to tell you very quickly what you need to study in the UK.

Which visa should I apply for?

The best thing to do is to ask your agent. If you are not coming though an agent, contact the UK embassy in your country. They will be able to help you.

What is the weather like in the UK?

Not as bad as you might have heard! The weather in Bournemouth may surprise you. We have a large proportion of days with blue skies and in the summer the temperature can reach 30C / 86F. In the winter, we can have some bad weather and occasionally even a tiny amount of snow… have you ever seen a beach with snow on it?

How do I get to Bournemouth?

Most people fly into Heathrow airport. From here you can take the bus which takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. If you prefer, we can come and collect you by private hire car (airport transfer by taxi).

Does Bournemouth have an airport?

Yes, we have a medium-sized international airport from which you can fly to Italy, France, Germany, Spain or even the USA!

Who will be in my class?

Unless you ask for a 1:1 class or a closed group course, you will normally be tested and placed in a class according to your level. ETC normally specifies a maximum class size of 14, however where classrooms permit and are suitably equipped, lit, heated and ventilated, we reserve the right to use these rooms to their maximum capacity. No classes will exceed 18 students. The minimum age for all Adult Courses is normally 18. (However, students aged 16 and 17 can study in adult classes with the written permission of their parents or guardians).
