Course Information

Our Aviation English course to help you reach and maintain the ICAO Operational Level 4 standard of English. Your timetable structure consists of 10 lessons of Aviation English per week and 20 lessons of General English a week. Students of this course include pilots, trainee pilots, aircraft engineers, air traffic controllers and other aviation professionals from around the world.

We encourage active learning in a stress-free environment and for you to develop your English speaking, writing, reading and listening skills.

Course Timetable

Aviation English

This course will enable you to function effectively in everyday situations where clarity of expression in technical Aviation English is required.

From September to May you will study from 08:45am – 2:45pm.

From June – August you will study from 12:30pm – 17:45pm.

Typical Course Content

The course is built around and focuses on the 6 major areas of the ICAO Language Proficiency Rating Scale:

  • Pronunciation
  • Structure
  • Vocabulary
  • Fluency
  • Comprehension
  • Interactions

We will focus on these six vital areas by using a communicative approach in aviation-related contexts. Combining standard radio-telephony phraseology and ‘plain’ English will ensure that personnel have the confidence to move beyond phraseology in times of need and ensure safety in the air.

How long are classes?

Each lesson in 45 minutes long.

Our Specialist Courses offer you 30 lessons per week. This means you receive 22.5 hours of tuition per week. Some of your classes will be in the afternoon.

When can I start studying?

You can enrol at ETC from any Monday of your choice. On your first Monday at ETC you will take a test that will help us decide which level of classes you need.

You must be level B2 English in order to enrol on a Specialist English course at ETC.
