Effective Teaching

Effective Teaching

We strive to ensure that the highest quality of tuition is maintained at ETC.

ETC provides on-going training for our dedicated teachers. By developing our staff we help them to engage, inspire and stimulate our learners. ETC uses the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) in our teaching structure, so students know what they can expect to learn and our teachers can effectively track students’ progress.

What is CEFR?

The CEFR is the Common European Framework of Reference for language.

It divides learners into three broad divisions which can be divided into six levels: These divisions apply to all languages, not just English and not just European. So, if someone is B1 in English, they can do the same as someone who is B1 in Arabic, Japanese or any other language.

A/ Basic speaker

A1 Breakthrough or beginner
A2 Waystage or elementary

B/ Independent Speaker

B1 Threshold or pre-intermediate
B2 Vantage or intermediate

C/ Proficient Speaker

C1 Effective Operational Proficiency or upper intermediate
C2 Mastery or advanced

The CEFR describes what a learner is supposed to be able to do in reading, listening, speaking and writing at each level.

Our English Teachers

ETC takes great care in selecting English teachers that we think will bring the best out of our students. Our staff are overseen by our professional development team, who provide on-going training for our teachers.

We hold regular ‘Professional Development Sessions’, where our dedicated English teachers are encouraged to fine-tune their knowledge of structural and functional language.

Effective English teaching

Teachers stay up to date with the latest trends in methodology to ensure they continue to show sound knowledge of the linguistic systems of English as a global language.

Our English teachers are observed regularly by senior teachers and members of our English teacher training team. They also have the opportunity to observe each other in order to ensure a constant exchange of ideas.

Teacher Qualifications

All our teachers have a minimum of the industry-recognised teaching qualification; most of our teachers have much more than this.
